What happened in July?
Barbara began a diary, gently prompted by curiosity and a nudge toward personal growth. A sense of loneliness hovers, but so does a sense of hope, as she gets to know Fenella Blythe-Worthing and Maureen. Barbara’s birthday passes without fanfare. A soft mystery unfolds involving a marble, a colander, and a crow.
Fireside Chat
FBW: “So. First month in the book, poet.”
Barbara: “Literally. I didn’t think I’d keep it up past Tuesday.”
FBW: “That’s how it starts. A diary, a habit, a fern on the windowsill.”
Barbara: “And suddenly you’re naming hedgehogs and discussing biscuits like they’re spiritual.”
FBW: “Well, they are. Custard creams are a sacred practice.”
Barbara: “Do all good things sneak in that quietly?”
FBW: “Only the ones worth keeping.”
Sometimes the small things we nearly don’t do are the ones that root us deepest.
Note
FBW: Fenella Blythe-Worthing
